Dr. Shastri is a board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist with clinical expertise in the management of hematologic malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and aplastic anemia. She holds faculty appointments in the Departments of Oncology (Medical Oncology), Medicine (Oncology & Hematology), and Developmental & Molecular Biology at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Shastri’s research is focused on therapeutic resistance in AML and MDS, with an emphasis on the role of transcription factors, cancer stem cells, and RNA biology. Her laboratory investigates strategies to target STAT3 signaling pathways in the post-hypomethylating agent treatment setting.
Her work has been supported by the NIH Paul Calabresi Career Development Award (K12), the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Translational Research Program Award, and the Gilbert Bruce Smith Young Investigator Award from the MDS Foundation.
Dr. Shastri’s original research and scholarly reviews have been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Blood, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Nature Reviews Cancer, and The Lancet Haematology. She is a frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences.
