Michael J. Mauro, MD

About Dr. Mauro

Dr. Mauro is a board-certified hematologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with clinical expertise in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and other myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), including myelofibrosis, polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, and rare disorders such as eosinophilic and mast cell diseases. He emphasizes collaborative, personalized care and shared decision-making throughout the course of chronic disease management.

Before joining MSK, Dr. Mauro spent 13 years at Oregon Health & Science University, where he led the CML clinical trials program and contributed to pivotal studies in targeted therapy, including the development of imatinib (Gleevec). He completed his residency and fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Mauro’s clinical focus includes early treatment optimization, managing side effects, and addressing therapy resistance. He is part of MSK’s dedicated MPN team, advancing research and expanding access to novel therapies through a robust clinical trials program.
