LucyRx Expands Specialty Pharmacy Network to Remove Barriers in Cancer Care

The next-generation pharmacy benefit manager LucyRx has expanded its network of 130 integrated specialty pharmacies across the U.S. to improve access to life-saving medications for patients who are critically and chronically ill. This network allows patients to access on-site specialty pharmacies while seeing their physician and receiving care.¹

The expansion is part of LucyRX’s initiative to increase reimbursement for pharmacies in “pharmacy deserts,” remove barriers to care, reduce treatment delays and ensure faster medication delivery, and increase support for patients with complex conditions such as cancer.¹

“Some patients don’t have time to wait,” said David Blair, CEO of LucyRx, in a press release. “Every day matters when starting treatment, and delays impact survival rates and quality of life. Our vast pharmacy network is designed to ensure that no patient faces unnecessary hurdles in getting the care they need.”¹

LucyRx’s pharmacy network includes Northwestern Medicine Specialty Pharmacy, Boston Children’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Penn Medicine, and City of Hope.¹

A 2024 study in the Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice found that cancer patients who received their oral oncolytics from specialty pharmacies with medically integrated dispensing had lower healthcare and pharmacy costs, and used fewer healthcare resources, compared to those using partially and non-integrated dispensing strategies.²

Patients in the integrated group also had a lower average 6-month medical charge and oncolytic prescription costs ($36,831; $55,786) compared with patients in the partially integrated ($46,304, P=0.053; $63,295, P=0.071) and non-integrated groups (54,261, P<0.001; $65,005, P=0.004).²
